Protecting Iowa's elections

It is more important than ever that our election system accomplishes two goals at the same time: it must provide a fair and free opportunity for every eligible voter to participate and the process must be regulated so that everyone knows that the result of the election announced by officials accurately reflects what the voters actually did.

The Kirkwood Institute worked with Iowa lawmakers to improve Iowa's election system. President and Chief Counsel Alan R. Ostergren testified three times before the legislature during the 2021 legislative session in support of companion bills that contained election improvements. The bill supported by the Kirkwood Institute passed the legislature and was signed into law by Gov. Kim Reynolds.
